Use Restrictions and FAQs

Punahou Archives follows and adheres to the Punahou School Student and Parent Code of Conduct. In addition, below are guidelines for all researchers and inquiries to follow:

Copying and Publishing Materials

  1. To facilitate research, users may request copies of archival materials, with the understanding that not all requests may be fulfilled.
  2. Users may be required to provide a brief abstract (100-250 words) about their project, book, publication, etc.
  3. Archival materials used in research must be cited (footnotes, bibliography, caption, etc.) in any resulting publication and the Archives must be credited for all reproductions in publications.
  4. Researchers must seek written permission from the copyright owner to reprint or publish archival materials in any way.  The Archives assumes no responsibility for any infringement of Copyright Law.  Requester is responsible to obtain the copyright holder's permission for the publication or reproduction of all materials, published or unpublished.
  5. One copy of publications resulting from extensive research at the Archives or containing reproductions of materials from the Archives must be submitted to the Archives within 60 days of publication.

Citation Requirements

Please include the following elements when citing Punahou Archives materials:
  • Author or creator's name; title of Work; Date; Publication information; Collection name; Box and folder; Punahou School Archives, Honolulu, Hawai'i.
For digital assets:
  • APA 6th generation citation formal for digital images

Credit Requirements

For reproductions of Archival materials in publications, please use the following credit:
  • Punahou School Archives, Honolulu, Hawai'i.
