Special Screening of Rise of the Wahine: Champions of Title IX

Join us in celebrating the spirit of International Women's Day early with a special screening of Rise of the Wahine: Champions of Title IX and a panel discussion featuring inspiring leaders.

Rise of the Wahine is more than a documentary — it's a call to action, reminding us of the importance of creating opportunities for women everywhere.
 
All are welcome to attend this FREE event, but registration is required by Friday, January 31. One attendee per registration.

This inspiring documentary, narrated by Sarah Wayne Callies ’95, tells the story of Title IX and its connection to Hawaii through the story of our Rainbow Wahine volleyball team. It chronicles the efforts of the University of Hawai’i‘s women’s volleyball team in the 1970s, showcasing their fight for gender equality in collegiate sports during the Title IX era. It tells the story of visionary leaders like Patsy Mink, the first woman of color elected to the U.S. Congress, and coach Dave Shoji, who established the Rainbow Wahine volleyball program as a national powerhouse. Mayor Rick Blangiardi, a UH football coach during that era, is also featured in the film.
