However, with this club, it would make learning about these topics a lot more accesable, easy, intresting, and fun. The primary objective of this club is to explore identity, personality theory, and motivation, and apply these concepts to real-world situations to help others understand themselves better, reconnect with their self-worth, find purpose, and build hope for the future, particularly in underserved communities. These groups of individuals are important to focus on due to the fact that they face life's obstacles that often cause them to lose sight of their identity and purpose. In today's world, it is very easy to know or lose track of who you ever are, where you fit into society, and what your passions are, especially as you deal with external struggles. This club aims to support the people who might have lost sight of their identity and purpose in life by creating volunteer opportunities centering around the theme of self-discovery. Bi-weekly to monthly club meetings will be held. In such club meetings, we will discuss not only the depths of purpose and motivation, but also the depths of personality theory and identity. We will be using these ideas and discussions as preparation for the volunteer work we will be doing outside of school. Essentially, we explore what makes people tick and how to use those ideas to serve and empower others along the way (as well as ourselves).

Taiko Drums Club*

The Taiko Drum Club's purpose is to spread Japanese culture and let the Punahou students experience the amazing feeling of playing the drums. Taiko drums started in the year 712. It is over 1300 years old! It is not something common to be able to play the taiko drums, especially here in Hawaii. From my past experiences, I know many Punahou students love Japanese culture. The Tamagawa trip is very popular with middle school students, and there are also many students who take Japanese as their second language. Many students are Japanese as well. I was very surprised when another taiko team performed during the assembly a few years ago. There were so many people who were interested in playing the taiko drums. I'm sure we will be able to have many members again. Taiko drums are very good to build teamwork, friendship, reactive skills, and hand-eye coordination. It is very healthy for your brain because it will have to process through its hands and the eye. Taiko drums are mainly performed in a group. This builds teamwork, because all the songs require cooperation, collaboration, and synchronization. The players will make eye contact to stay in the same tempo throughout the song. I started when I was 3 years old, in a taiko team called "Dragon Beat". The team was founded / taught by my father, and we have so many taiko drums at our base. My family has also been teaching drums at a private school for eight years now. After helping out with lessons not only at schools but also at our base, I know how to efficiently teach students taiko drums. I've been teaching classes with students ranging from 3 to 5 years old, and also sometimes teach to students in elementary and middle school. Me and a few other of my classmates in Dragon Beat are the most skilled professional performers in the group. We have performed twice at Blue Note Waikiki, we've had performances at Blaisedell, and we perform for the Pan-Pacific Festival every year. There will be more information if you search up my name, or Dragon Beat. http://www.dragonbeat.org/performers.html There are many students who attend this school that practices the drums with me. Alexis Miyashiro is a junior now. She is one of the performers too, and we perform many times together. Starting this year, Cherry Ye (freshmen) will join this club as a leaderhsip role, supporting the meetings with me and Alexis. She has performed at Blue Note Hawaii with me and Dragon Beat. We've also stood on many amazing stages together. Alexis' mother, Mrs. Miyashiro is a Japanese teacher here at Punahou. She performs with us as well. My parents are willing to bring their taiko drums to our meetings again. They will bring the taiko drums from the base as close as they can to the meeting place in their car. Then, I will unload the car and carry the taiko drums by cart or by hand to the meeting place. I will set them up, and will be ready to play taiko drums with my club members! Alexis and Cherry are willing to help me with it. Overall, this club's goals are to spread the Japanese culture and the taiko drums to students here at Punahou. It will be fantastical if we could perform somwhere outside with my taiko group, after we finish learning and polishing a song. For long-term goals, I hope we can get more members every year. I really want this club to be successful, so I can achieve my goal of sharing my passion.

From topics like gratitude, vulnerability, being a leader, going first in situations, and surrounding yourself with good people, it will help not just boys, but everyone in how to become a better person. It will serve the Punahou community and Hawai'i because if more people learn and hear about good morals and values and apply it to their life, it will make the world a better place. I want people to be inspired about how Jack and I live life and how people can apply those values to their life. I hope our club, whether it is big or small, can have the even the smallest impact on someone's life.

Beyond the Gates (Career Explorations)

This club aims to assist the students that are still trying to figure themselves out and what they want to do in the future. Having a goal/dream job is a great way to increase motivation in academics as well as overall effort in various activities. I believe that this club will become a place where students can gain a better understanding of the future in a safe learning environment.

Water Safety Club

The Water Safety Program trains Punahou students to teach basic swimming and water safety skills to local kids in our greater community. In the short term, our goal is to train our members' hands-on teaching skills and help kids learn how to float, tread water, and be safe around a pool setting. In the long run, we want to spread our reach to more kids across the island who don't have access to swim lessons, helping reducing the number of drowning incidents in Hawai'i, while allowing Punahou students to develop their leadership abilities and service to the community.
