• Future Aces

   

  For advanced beginning to intermediate level players in grades 2 – 4

  
  

  The Future Aces program is the highest level of after school tennis for grades 2 – 4. Players invited into this program may also elect to participate in Play Days (Orange or Green Ball), a supplemental competition-based program that runs twice a month on Saturdays. Play Days are designed to be fun, low-key, non-threatening competitive play opportunities (see “Play Days” below).
  
  Future Aces is offered in Fall and Spring semesters. Program details (times, dates and cost), as well as registration information, are provided in the coaches’ invitation letters.

• Slamming Aces

  For advanced beginning to intermediate level players in grades 5 – 8

  
  

  Players invited into this program may also elect to participate in the supplemental Slamming Aces Play Day which offers weekly competitive matchplay opportunities on Saturdays.

• ACE

  For intermediate to advanced level players in grades 5 – 8

  
  

  Punahou’s “A Competitive Edge” (ACE) Program is a competitive tennis training program for students who are more committed to their development and are looking to improve their competitive game play.
  
  The program features advanced shot development and techniques, situational tactics, footwork, and fitness training. The goal of this program is to help prepare players for future ILH team play, Tournaments, Junior Team Tennis and other competitive events.
  
  There are three levels within the ACE program:

  • ACE I (Advanced)
  • ACE II (Intermediate-Advanced)
  • ACE III (Intermediate)

  In addition to having the skills and abilities to play at this level, students must consistently display a positive attitude and excellent sportsmanship.
  
  Players invited into this program may also elect to participate in the supplemental ACE Play Day which offers weekly competitive matchplay Team Tennis play opportunities on Saturdays.

• Play Days

  Play Days at Punahou allow students to play tennis in a fun, non-threatening, non-elimination environment, which are essential to accelerating student development at all levels. Younger students learn the appropriate boundaries of the court (singles/doubles), how to keep score, and participate in competitive “play” scenarios against players of similar ages and skill levels.

  More experienced students learn to implement advanced strategies and situational tactics.These low-key competitions are organized in formats to allow students to play again and again, whether they win or lose. Emphasis is placed on participation, effort, sportsmanship, and fun. Students build confidence and improve on the fundamental skills they learn during the weekday group lessons.

  
  Play Days take place on Saturdays throughout the school year and students are grouped by appropriate age and skill level. Because our “Junior Team Tennis” program is not currently being offered, we highly recommend students interested in organized competition to join the appropriate Play Day program.
  
  
  
  

  Types of Play Day	Grades	Criteria
  Orange Ball Play Day	2 – 4	Orange Ball Play Days are designed to integrate matchplay that compliments the skills worked on during the weekday training sessions. Play Days accelerate learning by allowing students to implement their growing skills in a fun, low-key, non-elimination format competition. Students will learn how to effectively develop points, implement strategy, and problem solve. Coaches have the opportunity to provide valuable real-time feedback in between points during the matchplay. Students will play on an appropriate-sized court with the orange low-compression transition ball. Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in the Future Aces program.
  Green Ball Play Day	3 – 4	Green Ball Play Days are designed to integrate matchplay that compliments the skills worked on during the weekday training sessions. Play Days accelerate learning by allowing students to implement their growing skills in a fun, low-key, non-elimination format competition. Students will learn how to effectively develop points, implement strategy, and problem solve. Coaches have the opportunity to provide valuable real-time feedback in between points during the matchplay. Students will play on an appropriate-sized court with the orange low-compression transition ball. Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in the Future Aces program.
  Slamming Aces Play Day	5 – 8	Slamming Aces Play Days are designed to compliment the weekday training sessions with matchplay opportunities. Competition is an essential component to overall student development and Play Days accelerate learning by allowing students to consistently compete in a fun, non-elimination format where they will learn how to effectively develop points, implement strategy, and problem solve. Coaches have the opportunity to provide valuable real-time feedback in between points during competition. Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in the Slamming Aces (Wed/Fri) program (Grades 5 – 8). Prerequisite: Students must be able to serve overhand, sustain a rally, and keep score accurately.
  ACE Play Days	5 – 8	ACE Play Days are designed to compliment the weekday training sessions with matchplay. Competition is an essential component to overall student development and Play Days accelerate learning by allowing students to consistently compete in a non-elimination format where they learn how to effectively develop points, implement strategy, and problem solve. Coaches have the opportunity to provide valuable real-time feedback in between points during competition. Eligibility: Must be enrolled in the ACE group program (Grades 5 – 8).
  JET Play Day	9 – 12	JET Play Days are designed to compliment the weekday training sessions with matchplay opportunities. Competition is an essential component to overall student development and Play Days accelerate learning by allowing students to consistently compete in a non-elimination format where they learn how to effectively develop points, implement strategy, and problem solve. Coaches have the opportunity to provide valuable real-time feedback in between points during competition. Eligibility: Must be enrolled in the JET program (Grades 9 – 12).
