Program Details
At Punahou Dance School, we pride ourselves on offering an extensive selection of classes, catering to students across various disciplines including ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, musical theatre dance, street dance, and contemporary dance. Our dedication to excellence shines through in our incorporation of Progressive Ballet Technique conditioning into our classical ballet training, elevating the learning experience for all our students. All classes are open to the public.
Our comprehensive program cultivates a student’s love for dance while providing a solid technical foundation for further artistic pursuits. Students develop skills such as discipline, creativity, perseverance, adaptability and empathy, which serve them throughout their lives, both in and out of the classroom. Our alumni have gone on to become professional dance artists and educators, as well as lifelong dancers and supporters of the arts.
All of our classes emphasize dance technique, musicality and performance quality. Beginning levels are designed for students with little or no prior training, introducing basic dance vocabulary and combinations. Students can remain at the beginning level for two or three years before progressing to intermediate levels where they focus on body placement, conditioning and more complex choreography. Advanced levels are intended for more serious dance students, and enrollment is by permission only.
Punahou Dance Team, Mini Dance Team & Youth America Grand Prix Soloists
Our Dance Team (Grades 7-12) and Mini Dance Team (Grades 3-6) rehearse Saturdays and perform at ILH games and local competitions.
The Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Soloists rehearse throughout the week in private lessons and will attend one mainland competition.
All interested dancers must audition to be selected for the teams and YAGP. Auditions for the 2024-2025 school year will be held on Saturday, July 6. Contact the Dance School for more information.
