Grades 6 – 8

Grades 6 – 8 Applicants

In Grade 6, Grade 7, and Grade 8, we’ve created a unique learning environment that makes a big campus feel small. To help our middle school students develop their own identity and deeper connection to others, students are placed in small dedicated “teams” with approximately 90 students, with dedicated learning spaces per team. Each team will have dedicated advisors that work with and guide approximately 14 students. In Grade 6, we welcome an additional 88 students bringing the grade to approximately 280 students. In Grade 7, we welcome 80 more students to Punahou. Openings in Grade 8 are based on attrition.

List of 5 items.

  • Step 1: Application due November 1

Application Eligibility: Applicants should apply to the next successive grade. For example, if your child is currently in Grade 6, your child will be applying for Grade 7. Applications should be submitted as early as possible, but no later than November 1. After we review your child’s application, we will assign a checklist to your online myPunahou account.
  • Step 2: Teacher References

Starting October 15, the Teacher Reference Form will be available to send to your child’s current Math and English teachers. The teachers’ email addresses are needed for this step. If an applicant has one teacher for both English and Math, only one form is required. All teacher reports need to be received directly from the applicant’s teacher no later than December 31. Being mindful of the teachers' time, we recommend notifying your teachers in October.
  • Step 3: SSAT

Register your child to take the SSAT between August and December. Results must be shared with Punahou School by December 31. To inquire about a need-based fee waiver, contact the Punahou Financial Aid Office before registering. Upload previous year school-administered standardized test results (only required if testing was administered by the applicant's school).
  • Step 4: Group Session

Your child will be scheduled for an on-campus, in-person Saturday Session, and you will receive an email with the date and time of the appointment. Appointments are limited. Please contact us if your child cannot attend an on-campus appointment.
  • Step 5: Report Cards

Upload a copy of the current school year’s first report card as soon as available. This will be your child’s first quarter or first trimester report. If your child receives quarterly or semester report cards, please upload a copy of the second quarter or first semester report as soon as available.

Application Opens August 1, 2025
