At this year’s Carnival purchasing an item from the haku lei booth will be a little different than in previous years. Please read the information below so you know what to expect when you get to Carnival.
There will be two lines for purchasing at the Haku Lei Booth:
-
One line will process tickets in numerical order
-
One line will be for walk ups to purchase kupe‘e, all hair pieces, and lei po‘o (when no ticket holder is present).
Prior to Carnival opening, at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4, up to 200 numbered tickets will be distributed to those wanting to purchase lei po‘o. This is an effort to provide a more efficient time in which our community can select their lei, without standing in line for extended periods of time.
25 tickets will be distributed for every 15-minute period beginning at 11 a.m. each day, then 11:15, 11:30 and so on until 1 p.m.
If you miss your assigned purchasing window, we apologize for any disappointment, but you will then move to walkup status.
At the end of the 200 tickets or 1 p.m. deadline, we will move entirely to walkups, dividing the line between lei po‘o and the collective group of ti lei po‘o, kupe‘e and hair pieces. If you are in line with your numbered ticket within the 1 p.m. deadline, your priority will be honored.
After the first 200 numbered tickets are processed, or if we sell out, we ask for your patience as we continue to process sales and create lei throughout the Carnival lei making hours. We expect demand to be high, but we are doing everything in our power to ensure each member of our Punahou community is showered in lei. We look forward to seeing you all!
